Tallulah Bankhead, the famous actress lived here in 1926 when she was twenty three. She once confessed to being “as pure as the driven slush” and when being told that Shirley Temple had been photographed through gauze, she replied “Then they ought to photograph me through linoleum”.
Bankhead boasted of having slept with more than 5,000 people and famously said “Going down on a woman gives me a stiff neck, going down on a man gives me lockjaw and conventional sex gives me claustrophobia.”
Whilst living here she liked to apply hairdressing gold dust to her pubic hair, open the door and flash at anyone who passed by.
